OTHER ACNE TREATMENTS

BLU-U® Light Photodynamic Therapy. BLU-U® therapy has been shown to be effective in treating moderate acne. BLU-U® light targets the bacteria associated with acne and is anti-inflammatory. We have been able to get many of our patients off of chronic antibiotics with this relatively simple technique. The treatments are painless and there are no side effects.

Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) for acne. We are very excited about our successful experience with PDT for the treatment of severe acne. We have taken care of many patients with nodular, cystic and scarring acne who have had phenomenal results. PDT is a great alternative to isotretinoin (Accutane) or high dose antibiotics as there are no systemic side effects to worry about. A topical drug (Levulan) is applied to the skin and allowed to be absorbed. The drug is then activated by BLU-U® light. The sebaceous glands that cause acne are disrupted by PDT. We also use PDT to treat photo-aged skin, pre-malignant lesions and some superficial skin cancers.
